The following rules were adopted to assure that the Society carries out its activities
in a safe, professional manner and maintains a family oriented environment. Your
compliance with these rules is expected.
Violation of these rules may be considered a severe infraction and membership may be
terminated or restricted at the discretion of the Board of Directors who will formalize
their decision in writing. Prior to action by the Board, the unit commander may take such
action as he or she deems necessary up to and including removal of the offending member
from an event.
General Rules
- The Society as a Unit or Organization may not take part in any partisan political
activity. This is prohibited by our charter.
- Society equipment is to be used only by Society members and only for events approved by
the Unit commander or Board of Directors.
- Society equipment is to be promptly returned to Society possession at the conclusion of
an event.
Behavioral Rules

will be immediately dismissed from the Society.
- There will be no use or display of alcoholic beverages from the time a member leaves his
or her home to attend an event until the event is over and the member has returned home.
Under special circumstances, the unit commander may waive this rule on a limited basis.
- The use of fireworks is prohibited unless officially part of the event and, where that
is the case, will be governed by local law and the instruction of the unit commander.
- No one under 16 years of age may participate with the organization unless accompanied by
a parent or guardian unless:
--he or she has written approval from a parent or guardian and prior approval of the unit
commander or Board of Directors.
--he or she has a participating adult member of the Society serving as guardian and such
relationship has been approved by the unit commander or Board of Directors.
- Any member wishing to bring guests to an event must receive permission form the unit
commander. Each guest is subject to the rules of the Society and direct responsibility for
adherence thereunto falls upon the responsible member. Guests should have an interest in
the Society and its goals and purposes.
- Portrayals of occupations, roles, etc. outside the general description of the unit (e.g.
Continental soldiers, militia, or distaff) must be approved prior to each event by the
unit commander.
- While in attendance at an event, a member will conduct himself or herself in a manner in
keeping with the unit portrayed.
- Ladies in camp will be treated with the utmost respect at all times.
- Unmarried adult female members or guests will be quartered separately and their privacy
strictly maintained.
- Camp duties such as setup, take down, food preparation etc. are the responsibility of
every member of the Society. Everyone is expected to take part in such activity as
requested by the commander of the unit, unit NCO's or Chief Distaff.
Safety Rules
- The bearing of firearms is restricted to those 16 years of age or older.
- All firearms of flint ignition must have flashguards and frizzen covers installed.
- Weapons should be kept clean in a military manner and inspected prior to each use by the
unit commander or his designate.
- "Live" cartridges of any kind are inappropriate and are not to be brought to
an event.
- During reenactments, ramrods are never to be drawn for any purpose nor is any wadding or
any other material except black powder to be placed down the barrel.
- Muzzles are to be safely elevated during demonstrations and reenactments.
- No edged weapon is to be presented to an opposing troop at a distance closer than 20
feet. Give ground if necessary.
- Firearms are to be loaded from approved paper cartridges only. If powder horns are
carried while portraying militia, they must be empty.
- Weapons must be of a type and construction consistent with the unit portrayed.
- No weapon is to be discharged in camp without the approval of the unit commander or his
designee.
Dress Standards
- Upon arrival at an event, once setup is complete, each member should dress in the
appropriate period costume for the event and remain so dressed for the duration of the
event.
- Members, family members and guests not in costume may not remain in the camp area.
- Sidearms may be worn by officers, NCO's and musicians over 16 only.
- Dependent children are to be dressed in non-military clothing.
- All clothing and accoutrements should be of appropriate materials and patterns as listed
in the Regimental Unit Standards. Non-standard wear must be approved prior to each event
by the unit commander or chief distaff.
- Members are expected to acquire basic proper uniforms and clothing within 3 months of
membership.
- If the prescription allows, eyeglasses are to be of the proper type for the period
portrayed.
- Smoking is not allowed in ranks except with the express permission of the unit commander
or his designate and then only in a proper period manner.
- Smoking in camp during "open" hours must be in a period manner.
Kitchen Area Rules
- Never leave the kitchen area unattended. There should be at least one person in the
kitchen at all times.
- Keep all personal items (mugs, etc.) off of the kitchen tables.
- Do not burn trash in the fire.
- Everyone is responsible for cleaning their own eating utensils.
- Use the dippers, not your mug, for getting water or tea.
- Do not use the kitchen area as a gathering spot while meals are being prepared,
particularly around the tables.
- Be constantly aware of visitors in the kitchen area. Hold down the 20th Century chatter
so we can talk to visitors easily without a lot of distraction. (This is a good idea for
the camp as a whole. 20th Century chatter can spoil the atmosphere we are trying to
create.)
- Shirts are required at all meals.
- No shaving or cleaning muskets in the kitchen area.
